Spirit Challenge 2009

On May 24th, May 30th and May 31st Thousand Waves held its annual fundraiser: Spirit Challenge 2009. Nearly 200 individuals and families raised much needed funds and completed a variety of athletic and martial events. Take a look at the accomplishments everyone achieved!

Fun runners awaited instruction
  • 18 children participated in the ¼ mile, ½ mile and 1 mile Fun Runs
  • 105 teens and adults participated in the 3 / 6 / 9 mile Walk-Run
  • 50 people joined the Thousand Waves Team for Bike the Drive

Child care was provided to 3 / 6 / 9 mile participants
  • 194 individuals and families raised over $50,000
  • 14 people raised $1,000 or more
  • 60 people raised $200 or more

Volunteers posted signs
  • Dozens of Thousand Waves members and friends pulled together to make Spirit Challenge possible
  • 3 people completed 6 out of 7 events
  • 5 people completed 5 events

54 individuals demonstrated stamina and grace during kata

36 people broke boards using a variety of techniques, including this flying side kick

33 individuals performed advanced karate

Spirit Challenge 2009 was a tremendous success. Thousand Waves bountifully thanks all participants, families, friends, volunteers and contributors!
